Lat Jor Ngoné Latir Jop was a prominent 19th-century leader of the Wolof kingdom of Cayor in present-day Senegal. He is remembered for his strong resistance against French colonial expansion during a time of growing European influence in West Africa. Lat Jor fiercely opposed the construction of the Dakar–Saint-Louis railway, seeing it as a threat to his kingdom’s sovereignty. His leadership symbolized courage, independence, and dedication to protecting his people and traditions. He died in battle in 1886, becoming a lasting national hero in Senegalese history.
