Gele is a traditional head wrap or tie worn by women in West Africa.It emanated from the Yoruba culture, and its origin is hard to trace,it is a symbol of cultural continuity, unity, identity; pride, and strength female adults,and even children wear the Gele as a sign of elegance and maturity. Also Visual biography; styles of gele tying tell the story of women’s journey through life. Women often wear a uniformed colored Gele if they are among an organisation or at an event, such as a wedding party,burials, festivals, state functions and religious gatherings.
Due to the diversity of the continent and the number of other ethnic groups, the way that head ties are produced and worn varies between countries.
