Who I Am
Ayodeji Ibraheem “CRUSOE” Tiamiyu
I am a self-taught abstract artist shaped by a lifelong connection to creativity. Born in the early 1990s and raised in Nigeria within a family of professional African artists, art was not just introduced to me—it was lived.
Although my professional journey began later in life, my foundation was built through early exposure, cultural immersion, and years of observation. My path eventually led me to the United States, where I earned degrees in Accounting and Business Administration, but my true calling remained rooted in artistic expression.
History
Ayodeji Ibraheem “CRUSOE” Tiamiyu is an African American artist whose creative foundation was shaped by an early immersion in art. Born in the early 1990s and raised in Nigeria, he grew up in a family of professional African artists, where creativity was both a discipline and a way of life.
Although exposed to art from a young age—participating in concerts and competitions—he began pursuing his artistic career more intentionally in his twenties. Alongside his creative journey, he built a strong academic foundation, earning an Associate’s degree in Accounting in 2016 and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2021 after relocating to the United States.
Crusoe’s artistic evolution was marked by a search for meaning and identity within his work. This clarity emerged through his exploration of black-and-white compositions, where he discovered a profound connection. To him, art is inherently symbolic, and every element—especially color—must communicate intention. The use of white represents new beginnings, while contrast evokes emotion, depth, and perspective.
The name “Crusoe,” given to him in Nigeria, reflects resilience, creativity, and the ability to thrive through ingenuity. This identity mirrors his artistic purpose: to observe what is often overlooked and transform it into powerful visual narratives. His work remains deeply influenced by African elements, honoring the culture that shaped his vision.
For Crusoe, art is not just something to be seen—it is something to be felt. Whether on canvas or worn as expression, his creations are designed to evoke confidence, empowerment, and positivity. Cultural Roots & Purpose
My work is deeply rooted in African culture—its symbols, rhythms, and untold stories. Growing up in Nigeria shaped my perspective and continues to influence my artistic language today.
I found clarity in my art through black-and-white expression, where contrast became a powerful tool for storytelling. To me, art is symbolic—every line, form, and color carries meaning. White represents new beginnings, while contrast evokes emotion, balance, and depth.
My purpose is to create art that people can feel and relate to on a personal level. Art that transforms spaces, shifts perspectives, and evokes emotion. Art that allows people to see themselves, their culture, and their identity reflected back at them.
